The coronavirus continues to devastate families.

“Smfh this corona shit done killed my great uncle,” a grief-stricken Offset told his 16 million followers. “Rip uncle Jerry damn man.”
His wife Cardi B recently opened up about the virus’ impact on those close to her. “I’ve been really sad because so many people around me have been going through a lot of shit,” she said during a livestream. “It’s hard to feel good when so many people around you is going through a lot of shit.”
COVID-19 has infected more than 2.3 million people and killed at least 163,000 worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University.
On Saturday, Global Citizen hosted “One World: Together At Home,” a tribute to healthcare workers and first responders in the fight against the pandemic. The eight-hour global special, which received $127 million in commitments from corporate partners and philanthropists, featured appearances from Lizzo, Pharrell, Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, and Beyoncé, who shared her support for the heroic workers on the front lines.
“To the doctors, the nurses, and other health care workers who are away from their families, taking care of ours, we continue to pray for your safety,” said Beyoncé. “To those in the food industry, delivery workers, mail carriers, and sanitation employees, who are working so that we can be safe in our homes, we thank you for your selfless service.”
She also noted the virus’ disproportionate impact among black Americans. “Black Americans disproportionately belong to these essential parts of the workforce that do not have the luxury of working from home,” she continued. “And African American communities at large have been severely affected in this crisis.”
