A Hollywood Hills man has been charged in connection with the death of Mac Miller, who was found dead of a drug overdose nearly a year ago.
According to a 42-page federal criminal complaint, obtained by The Associated Press, Cameron James Pettit, 28, allegedly supplied Miller with counterfeit oxycodone pills containing fentanyl. Prosecutors claim Miller asked Pettit for “percs,” short for percocet, a prescribed painkiller containing oxycodone.
Miller was discovered unresponsive in his Studio City, Calif. home on Sept. 7, 2018. The Coroner ruled his death as an accidental overdose due to mixed drug toxicity of fentanyl, cocaine, and alcohol.
While investigating Mac’s death, authorities found a plastic bag containing pills that were allegedly supplied by a prostitute. Two days earlier, Pettit delivered to Miller counterfeit oxycodone pills that contained fentanyl, cocaine, and Xanax.
The criminal complaint also reveals Instagram direct messages between Pettit and others shortly after Miller’s death. “I think I should probably not post anything …just to be smart,” Petit allegedly said in one of the texts.
When asked how he was doing in another text, Petit allegedly wrote: “I am not great … Most likely I will die in jail.”
Pettit was taken into custody Wednesday morning. According to the criminal complaint, he is one of three people who supplied Mac with the counterfeit drugs.
