Mary J. Blige is sharing her testimony.
The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul returns with her empowering anthem “Know.” The soulful song opens with some words of wisdom from the R&B powerhouse, who chronicles her inspiring journey.
“Being a ruler means sacrifice. Most of the time, you get less than what you give,” says MJB. “So every woman and mother in the world is a queen because she sacrificed so much.”
She then takes it to church as she sings about overcoming obstacles and bouncing back. “My snapback’s real / Still thick in these jeans / I ain’t missin’ no meals,” sings Mary. “They just don’t know how many times I lost just so I could win.”
Blige is currently traveling across the country with Nas on their co-headlining “Royalty Tour,” which wraps next month. The two recently teamed up on their collaboration “Thriving.”
The Oscar-nominated singer-actress will also star in “Power Book 2: Ghost,” a spinoff of Starz’ hit series “Power.”
