Is it the end for Rae Sremmurd?
Slim Jxmmi shocked fans when he seemingly announced that the duo is breaking up. Taking to Twitter, Jxmmi implied that he is done being in the group and plans to pursue a solo career.
“I’m not Rae Sremmurd I’m slim jxmmi and ima sink or swim by myself,” he wrote in a series of since-deleted tweets. “Y’all won it’s a wrap.”
He also made reference to the other half of Rae Sremmurd, his brother Swae Lee. “Y’all still got ya mans swae y’all a be skraight,” he wrote.
Jxmmi went on to announce a new solo project on Instagram. “Rip slim Jxm,” he wrote. “2nd project Dropping 2k19.”
The Mississippi duo released its latest album, SR3MM, in May. The triple album consisted of Slim Jxmmi’s solo project Jxmtro, Swae Lee’s solo debut Swaecation, and a joint Rae Sremmurd album.
In December, they each released a pair of holiday singles including Jxmmi’s “Nothing for Christmas” and Swae Lee’s “Christmas at Swae’s.”
Prior to Jxmmi’s announcement, the duo revealed that SremmLife 4 was in the works and set for a 2019 release. “SremmLife 4, we’re sticking to the script of what we do on the SremmLife; making club bangers, making timeless classics and just bringing the vibe,” Swae Lee told Hypebeast in October. “Me and Slim Jxmmi are coming together for another classic album, our fourth album. SremmLife 4 will come early next year.”
Both artists have been pursuing solo careers while still remaining a group. In addition to collaborating with Post Malone, Ellie Goulding, and Camila Cabello, Swae Lee has been teasing an EP of his own.
