Shortly after Drake appeared to diss Joe Budden on “Diplomatic Immunity,” Vic Mensa references the “retired” New Jersey rhymer on his own freestyle to the Scary Hours cut.
Over the Boi-1da instrumental, Mensa makes mention of Budden’s stint on “Love & Hip Hop,” his beef with Consequence, his livestream after allegedly being punched in the face by Raekwon and/or his entourage, and his past domestic violence allegations.
“Fake like it’s all love at shows ’til they push the Joe button and you get punched in the face as a consequence,” he raps. “And jump right back on live, cappin’ with confidence / Famous for putting your hands on women, you can’t be proud of it / Don’t try to fuck wit me shorty, just stay monogamous.”
Despite the apparent slights, Mensa took to social media to claim that he meant no disrespect towards the Slaughterhouse MC. “Shoutout Joe Budden,” he said. “Don’t misunderstand me. That was not a Joe Budden diss.”

Last month, he also took to Twitter to share his appreciation for the rapper’s Mood Muzik 3 mixtape.
“Ni**as come up to me like ‘fuck @JoeBudden.’ I’m not on that I actually fuck w bro,” he tweeted. “@JoeBudden mood muzik 3 has meant something to me. i got love for bro thru & thru.” At the time, Budden responded: “Lmao.. i fux w u too Vic.. that’s hilarious tho.”

Drake also seemed to throw shots at Budden on the original “Diplomatic Immunity.” “I’ve seen buddin’ careers turn to sit around and talk about other careers, judgin’ their peers,” he rapped on the track in an apparent reference to “The Joe Budden Podcast” and his former gig at Complex’s “Everyday Struggle.”
Last year, Vic released his debut album, The Autobiography. He is currently working on a new mixtape, a possible Gangsta Grillz collaboration with DJ Drama.
