New Music: Young Thug feat. Trouble & Shad Da God – ‘MLK’

Posted by Unknown on 10:48 AM

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Young Thug pays tribute to “MLK” on a new song featuring Trouble and Shad Da God.

Over a piano-laden instrumental, Thugger sings about his money wishes while reflecting on Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

“I was havin’ a dream I was whippin’ a Rolls-Royce,” he sings. “And I bought everything that I want / Turned to Martin Luther King overnight.”

Later, he opens up about his fears when discussing police relations. “I pray to God I die up in my sleep,” he sings. “I pray my deaf brother don’t run into the police / ‘Cause you tellin’ him to put his hands up, he can’t hear / Ain’t goin’ for deceased / These rookie police need to get trained, even in they sleep.”

The song was at least in part inspired by Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, which was given at the March on Washington in August of 1963. In it, he described a future that he wished to see in this country. “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character,” he said.

Prior to releasing “MLK,” Thugger linked up with Future in the videos for “Mink Flow” and “All Da Smoke” off their 2017 joint project, Super Slimey.
