When Kanye West came out as this dope artist from Chicago, I was dazed. He was hot. I found myself being an instant fan; College Dropout threw it over the top. However, his “biggest Achille’s heels,” as he describes his ego trip, began to kick in following that album, which was the reason I feel out of love with his talent as a whole. There was no way I could show support any more, but as 2015 closes, my attitude begins to change again. According to a speech West gave at the Oxford Guild Society in March, I can thank Drake for that change.

“I think that that’s been a progression of mind with the advent of a human being named Drake,” West expresses. “You know, this idea of holding onto a number one spot. And then you get this guy that comes and blows out the water, every number one of any band ever. Be it me or Paul McCartney. And at the point, you know, when you’ve lost the idea of holding onto that concept, you can leave the mountaintop finally, and walk down, and readjust, and see what your position on earth can be.”
As a fan, I see that change, and I’m here for every step of the journey. He adds that “if I, Kanye West, the very person, can remove my ego, I think there’s hope for everyone.” Let’s get it.
