Art Basel is one of the most looked forward to events of the year and last night two woman got into a physical altercation, leaving one woman in the hospital and the other behind bars. The stabbing occurred near an art installation entitled “The Swamp of Sagittarius,” created by Miami artist Naomi Fisher and partner Agatha Wara. Fisher told authorities that she was at her exhibit when she heard a scuffle and later saw a woman being wheeled away by paramedics.
By that time fisher was unaware of what happened, but later found out that one woman pulled an X-Acto knife out and stabbed another woman in the arms and neck.
“A guy walked up to me and said, ‘I thought I saw a performance, and I thought it was fake blood, but it was real blood.’”
said Fisher.
Also stating that another artist who’s name is Ruby Perez showed her a photo that he snapped on his cellphone of a woman dressed in white with blood stains on her clothes.
The attacker has been identified as 24-year-old Siyuan Zhao of New York. Officers stated that Zhao told them she
“had to kill [the victim] and two more…I had to watch her bleed!”
She apparently had been following the victim, who is unidentified, around the convention center, bumping into her multiple times before the stabbing took place.
Sara Fitzmaurice, a spokeswoman for Art Basel says
“The attack was an isolated incident that was immediately secured. The suspect was apprehended by police who were at the scene within seconds of the incident. … Our thoughts are with the victim.”
Both women were patrons of the art show. The victim was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital. And according to Miami Beach police spokeswoman Det. Kathleen Prieto.
“The injuries are non life-threatening,”
That attacker was arrested on charges of attempted felony murder/causing injury and she is now being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on $7,500 bond according to Blogs.ArtInfo
