Voters in Alaska, Oregon and Washington D.C took to the polls and are now in the process of bringing more pro marijuana laws to their state. There are some restrictions, but marijuana supporters are calling this a victory.
America has been in a sticky situation with marijuana laws for a long time. Of recently Uncle Sam has seemed to take a step back and see what decriminalization and some legalization can do. Alaska, Oregon and Washington D.C. had votes that would see some form of legalization. In All three states it is now Ok for users over the age of 21 to have personal possession, From their it varies. Oregon now legalizes the sale and manufacturing of marijuana for users over 21, and will also now create a commercial regulatory system for the distribution and sale of marijuana. Alaska will now tax and regulate the production and sale for users over 21. While D.C now legalizes possession of up to two ounces for users over the age of 21 and also allowing up to six cannabis plants in one resident at a time. It wasn’t all smiles however, Florida voters turned down a vote to legalize medical marijuana. Because the appeal went against Florida’s constitution they needed 60% of voters to pass the law but a close 57% voted for it which meant the law was a no go. Because of this victory pro marijuana activists are looking forward to 2016 where states such as California, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada and Arizona can put their takes on the new laws.
