In a horrific story, a woman and daughter are being charged with Criminal Neglect, after police discovered the woman’s 86-Year-Old mother-in-law with her toes eaten by animals in her own home. Hit the jump for the full story.
Upon conducting a welfare check on 86-year-old Maria Najera, police discovered her strapped to a medical bed. There was a strong smell of urine, and the small trailer was described by Officers as “disgusting.”
Rats had entered through the floor and ate away the woman’s toes. She was alive upon police arrival, but later died in a local hospital do to pneumonia.
The woman was supposed to be care for by her 39-year-old daughter-in-law Lori Del Hierro, and her 23-year-old daughter.
The two carers misappropriated the elderly woman’s funds, even using her Social Security checks to cover their personal expenses.
Both women were indicted on December 29, 2011, on a charge of neglecting a care facility resident.They may face Federal charges for their misuse of funds as well.
