Verizon Refuses To ship Google Wallet and will block users from downloading it?!

Verizon will not ship the Google Wallet app on the Galaxy Nexus, and will block users from downloading it via the Android Market.

It shows one of the big flaws in Google's plan for Wallet, which lets users pay for items at participating stores simply by tapping their phone against a reader. For it to work, Google not only needs handset makers to ship NFC chips, but also needs to make sure carriers are wiling to support it.

The Nexus ships with the NFC chip necessary to use Wallet, but according to 9to5 Google, Verizon will block the software from being installed. Verizon is teaming up with AT&T and T-Mobile to build its own mobile payments system, ISIS, and don't want to help Wallet get a leg up before it ISIS launches next year.

Right now, the only carrier to support Wallet is Sprint. No word on whether AT&T and T-Mobile will follow Verizon, which would basically make Wallet irrelevant in the U.S.
