Police arrest a man who they say attempted to burn his house down with children inside. During the investigation officers noticed a strong smell of lighter fluid coming from inside the home and saw that two burners to the gas stove were turned on and ignited. Officers were called to a home along the 700 block of South Lime Street around 4:30 a.m. Monday morning for a report of a man who was outside burning clothing and threatening to burn down the house. When investigators arrived at the scene they found Latif Aboul Khaliq, 32, inside arguing with his wife.
After a brief struggle with police Khaliq was eventually taken into custody. During the investigation officers noticed a strong smell of lighter fluid coming from inside the home and saw that two burners to the gas stove were turned on and ignited. Officers turned the stove off and quickly evacuated the building.
Police say Khaliq had doused the entire home and his wife with lighter fluid and then turned on the gas stove in an effort to start a fire.
Khaliq is facing several charges including arson, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.
Two children, ages 10 and 13 were inside the home during the incident.
No one was hurt
