|Pics| NFL Letting Players Break The Rules On 9/11, Allowing Special Cleats & Gloves

Posted by Unknown on 9:52 AM

The NFL announced Friday that players will be allowed to wear special shoes and gloves Sunday to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

“NFL confirmed to clubs this morning that players may wear special shoes/gloves from NFL licensees for Week 1 games,” read a tweet from NFL Vice President of Communications Michael Signora.

The announcement came a day after Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs created a stir by announcing that he would wear red, white and blue shoes and gloves for Sunday’s opener against Atlanta. But he also said he expected the league to fine him for violating its strict policy on uniforms.

The six-time Pro Bowler pointed out that players were allowed to wear pink cleats and gloves as part of the league’s breast cancer awareness efforts. But that campaign, dubbed “Crucial Catch,” was coordinated by the NFL.

“For the anniversary of 9/11 game why is it if I wear shoes and gloves that are the colors of r nations flag..I will be fined by the league?” Briggs wrote on Twitter.
“By far the best fine I will ever have to pay,” he posted later.
